CSAH has maintained an active ongoing relationship with the Seniors Health Knowledge Network (SHKN) for the last 5 years as one of the founding members of the Ontario Research Coalition of Centres/Institutes on Health and Aging (ORC) and through the roles of Drs. Puxty and Le Clair on the executive of its Advisory Council.
SHKN’s goal is to improve quality of life for Ontario’s seniors and caregivers. This is achieved through sharing evidence-based care practices within all seniors’ health care venues, particularly among long-term and community care staff; and through informing policy development for service providers, care settings, and knowledge users.
SHKN has provided a platform for knowledge sharing on topics related to Ontario’s seniors health care since 2005. SHKN includes 8,500 members (individuals, organizations, care providers, practitioners, educators, students, researchers and policy makers) who connect and collaborate across settings and disciplines to develop, evaluate and share knowledge to inform better client and caregiver outcomes. Despite changes in its long-term funding SHKN continues to support thirteen Communities of Practice (CoP), and the Ontario Research Coalition of Centres/Institutes on Health and Aging (ORC).
SHKN’s objectives for 2013/14 include:
Complete existing evidence-based knowledge translation tools currently under development
Ensure ongoing access to experiential and research-based knowledge and knowledge translation tools for researchers, policy makers and caregivers
Promote effective translation of knowledge-to-practice activities to ensure widespread dissemination and adoption of these resources and expertise
Support knowledge mobilization activities of thirteen CoPs throughout the year as they transition to new host organizations
Identify new and strengthen existing strategic partners to ensure capacity to host and support Communities of Practice effective April 1, 2014.
